A Cowboy Story
African Cowboy’s mission is to transform living and working conditions in Africa via social entrepreneurship and to take the world on a colorful journey through Africa…A journey that instills hope, expands notions of beauty and transforms lives through new conversations inspired by clothing.
Like our garments, the phrase “African Cowboy” has been carefully crafted to arouse curiosity and stimulate conversation, by bringing together two words that are traditionally thought of as different. We believe combining these words symbolizes the possibility for unity across cultural lines.
In keeping with this theme of unity and dialogue across cultural lines, our company has designed a unique line of limited edition wearable art shirts for men and women that represent the confluence of Western cowboy culture and traditional African textiles.
WHY THE AFRICAN COWBOY SHIRT?
The African Cowboy shirt is a visual metaphor for the new cross-cultural dialogue that we intend to inspire about Africa in the West. It speaks volumes to Africa’s beauty, as well as the mystique, strength and rugged individuality of the West.
In essence, the African Cowboy shirt encourages us to unleash our inner cowboy/cowgirl and blaze new trails that make a difference for humanity.
HOW AFRICAN COWBOY DOES BUSINESS:
In the spirit of extending our hand in partnership with others, African Cowboy has chosen a specific way to conduct business.
Traditionally, most clothing manufacturers produce their products in Asia due to existing infrastructure and low labor costs.
African Cowboy by its own nature has chosen to go against the norm by sewing it’s garments in the USA and producing its fabrics in Ghana West Africa via collaborations with local cottage industries. By doing so, African Cowboy provides Fair Trade opportunities for local textile manufacturers in ways that are not traditionally done and supports American industry in this challenging economy.
We strive to be an innovative example of how doing business in the U.S. and Africa can work both for the entrepreneur and for locals as well. In Africa, we work in partnership with locals to ensure that every piece of fabric is individually designed by our designer (Mobolaji) and local Ghanaian fabric artists, not sweatshops. Certainly, it costs us more to exclusively create one-of-a-kind designs, however, we take pride in the fact that each garment we produce creates jobs and transforms real communities.
TRANSFORMATION IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT.
As part of African Cowboy’s mission, we are seeking non-profit organizations and micro-lenders who work with local African artists. A portion of the proceeds from every garment sold will help African artists contribute — in their own special ways — to the growth and transformation of Africa.
Please assist us in our search for African Arts non-profits and micro-lenders by emailing us any links or information pertaining to our mission.
